Climbing with Orangutans in Borneo

These photos were taken over a year and a half ago in Borneo on an adventure trip with Bailey Hart.  Since the juveniles were going up, I thought I should go with them.  In this moment, I was both elated and scared because even the little ones like to play rough; as comfortable as I am climbing pole-like objects, I was in their territory, not mine.  They tried to pull on anything they could take (like any toddler), so we ended up playing tug of war with my bandana and face mask (Babies are particularly susceptible to human diseases, so you wear masks to prevent transmission.).

Even as a child, I'd get a rush of intense emotion looking into the eyes of an orangutan.  I knew I had things to learn from them.  We all do, if we'd take the time to.  I love their gentle souls, their dark eyes and wild hair.  I love that the babies hold your fingers with hand-like feet; I, too, have hand-like feet, though not as dexterous or strong.  I love sitting on the forest floor, watching how they move as they fluently navigate any forest environment, descending hundred foot trees and gobbling up huge piles of fruit.

SHAPE Magazine

When I was young I would buy fitness magazines hoping to look like the models I saw. In my mid-twenties, pole dancing inspired lifestyle changes that shifted my relationship with movement. My body changed and I appeared in a number of fitness magazines as a model. Gradually, I moved away from the aesthetic-driven exercise I was selected to represent in favor of natural movement and skill development.

Now, Flow Movement is featured on 10 beautiful pages in Shape magazine. I am honored that Shape featured not only my exercises but aspects of my shoe-free, floor-loving, playful and creative movement philosophy.

Back to 'Murica

10 Weeks, 12 countries, 9 million rotations, Done. Of all the photos I have from this trip, these may be my favorites. After coming down from a wet hike in Gudvangen, Norway into a teeny tiny very old town, these two mini horses and a long haired cattle walked down the road and stopped to say hello. I get very excited at the site of mini horses...particularly very squatty ones, and out of nowhere, in a town so silent that you hear grass moving, these two came over and even tried to get in the car. Apparently they take themselves for walks down the road. Today, back to 'Murica.

Marrakesh, Morocco (July 2015)

On the way to Essouiria from Marrakesh we saw goats in a tree. GOATS in a tree. I know about this, as I love goats but it caught me completely off-guard. A man then basically threw a little one at me and took my life photo. This was very fulfilling. Sigh.....

Scotland (July 2015)

Our first stop in Scotland, fresh from the airport in Aberdeen, was Slain's castle. The nice man at the car rental spot told us about it, knowing that we wanted to avoid tourists and take risks. We saw it from afar and became really excited. No one was there, and it was exactly the sate of ruin that we wanted. I dressed in the car because it was COLD. I mean painfully cold-- hands frozen/loss of motor control/ brain freeze/uncontrollable shivering cold. I can't even imagine a medieval winter there.

Climb mountain on all fours, continue climbing with swimming pools in your shoes as the rain pounds, make it to the top, do your best to stabilize an arm balance on rough volcanic rock in "blow you over" wind speeds = FUN AS F**K. Old Man of Storr on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, I love you.

I wanted to LIVE in this room of infinite galactic color changing sparkle lights at the Camera Obscura in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Norway (July 2015)

The other day, (well actually, late at night), we shot amongst the sculptures at Vigeland Park in Oslo, Norway. Thank you to our top assistants Yvonne and Ine ; )

After teaching in Oslo, we headed to Gudvangen, Norway, where I channeled a yellow tailed mermaid viking princess at the fjords.  It was after the rain and also before the rain, at about 10:30PM.
